Saint Nikolaus goes from house to house and asks children if they've been good or bad. Often, the children will recite a poem, sing, or showcase other talents for the Saint Nikolaus character. In return, Saint Nikolaus will give them gifts or tokens of appreciation. The streets are
gay and contagious. I've also observed the softer culture of the Germans when it comes to family. They go to church together and will then share a humble feast at home. It was a very memorable and spectacular experience for me. The stay with Uncle George showed me the happy and generous side of the Germans.
